Compass Catholic Community is a fee-free, alternative education option for young people aged 17-24.
Located in Davoren Park, Compass provides an opportunity for young people who have disengaged from mainstream school or employment, to re-engage in an environment where they are in control of their own way forward.
Students at Compass are able to work towards completing their SACE and explore some Vocational Education and Training (VET) in a flexible and personalised way – no set subjects, no timetables, no bells and no uniforms. Instead, the learning program is co-constructed with each student around their passions, interests or goals.
At Compass, the young person is at the centre of everything. The focus is on the individual, where they may want to go and what they would like to do. Compass works side by side with the young person, providing them with the tools, resources and support to get them there.
Compass focuses on the removal of barriers so that young people can focus on their learning, offering free breakfast every morning and access to free on-site childminding for students who are responsible for the care of pre-school aged children.
VET and Vocational Learning Offerings
Compass Catholic Community features a purpose-built (Industry standard) “Kitchen Hub” on site. In partnership with the Adelaide Institute of Hospitality (AIOH), Compass currently offers students the opportunity to undertake training to complete nationally recognised qualifications, Certificate I in Hospitality and Certificate II in Kitchen Operations.
Working alongside the young person’s Learning Facilitator (teacher), students at Compass begin to ‘map out’ their personal learning direction and goals, starting to explore what they want to do and investigating who they want to be. Based on individual interests and needs, students may continue to explore some Vocational Education Training or other training in an area of their choice, helping to prepare them for the future workplace.
In 2023, Compass will continue to give students the opportunity to engage in additional training including Certificate III in Business and Certificate III in Volunteering onsite.
Students can also access a wide range of VET courses including Community Services, Fitness, Hair & Beauty, Electronics, Photography, Electrotechology, Sport & Recreation, Engineering, Media & Technology, Fashion, Construction & Plumbing and Game Programming.
