Mount Carmel College embraces a diverse community of learners, each with unique individual needs and talents. In building a community that is caring and inclusive of all, we provide a broad range of learning and transitional pathways for our students to ensure they are successful in their academic endeavours and have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Vocational Education and Training (VET)
VET enables students in the Senior Years (Years 10-12) to gain a nationally recognised qualification while still at school. This opportunity enhances their learning and provides them with hands-on work experience, whilst gaining a qualification.
At Mount Carmel College, students in Years 10 – 12 have the opportunity to undertake Vocational Education & Training (VET) as part of their SACE studies at the Rosewater Trade Training Centre and other Registered Training Organisations. We have a significant number of students completing VET courses with a large number attending Rosewater Trade Training Centre and students also attending programs off campus at TAFE colleges, schools or other providers.
At Mount Carmel College, students in Years 10, 11 and 12 have chosen to study a wide range of VET courses including Hair and Beauty, Make-up, Construction, Bricklaying, Engineering, Animal Studies, Electrotechnology, Automotive, Health Services, Individual Support, Early Childhood Education and Care, Fitness, Warehouse Operations, Commercial Cookery, Music Studies and Business.
Personal Learning Plan and Workplace Practices
At Mount Carmel College, all students in Year 10 complete Personal Learning Plan as a compulsory subject. This subject helps to identify strengths and interests and identify future goals and aspirations.
Career Education
Mount Carmel College is committed to educating students about career choices and pathways. Career development is a part of the school curriculum Years 7-12, helping students to develop a clear understanding of their strengths and interests and make good decisions about career pathways.
Workplace Learning and Work Experience
As Mount Carmel College has a large number of students enrolled in VET courses, the expectation of many courses is that they complete Work placement. Students undertaking work placement and work experience are supported through this process by the Transition Pathways Coordinator and other staff members.
School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships
Students at Mount Carmel College have been very successful in obtaining School-based Apprenticeships and Traineeships. We currently have 12 students completing a traineeship or apprenticeship while still completing their SACE studies.
Mount Carmel College students have or are completing an apprenticeship or traineeship in plumbing, banking, the hotel industry, electrical disability support, construction and engineering.
Flexible Learning Pathways
Flexible Learning Pathways, including Vocational Education and Training, are available to students in Years 10, 11 and 12.
As part of the Catholic Education SA STEM Learning Initiative, STEM vocational pathways have been included under the Students tab for all VET courses listed in the CESA Directory.
